Dota Auto Chess Hero Tier List - March 2019

The Dota Auto Chess Tier List (March 2019) splits the hero units in five tiers based on their strength and usefulness. Updated monthly.

I believe there isn’t an ideal tier list in Auto Chess because the hero choices also depend on personal preferences and tactics; moreover we do not have data from a professional scene.

This tier list is an attempt to provide reliable info as it is based on the study and analysis of several sources:

  • Tier lists shared by very-skilled players who are mostly ranked at Queen.

  • Data from community surveys among Rook players and above.

  • The match count and win rate statistics of each chess piece at Rook and above during the past weeks.

I plan to update this tier list monthly, but you can expect changes also once new hero units are released, if the current ones are affected by huge balance changes or reworks, and whenever there is a big shift in the meta.

If you are looking for further info such as synergies, hero guides, and item combinations, more articles are available in the Auto Chess section. I decided to not include meta explanations in this tier list as the game might change a lot over time.

I tried to create a layout as friendly as possible for newcomers by providing hero avatar, name, species, class, and gold cost of each chess piece. The heroes are sorted by gold cost.

Hero units analysis

Jason “Amaz” Chan is a famous Hearthstone player who is ranked at Queen in Dota Auto Chess. His streams and videos are very instructive, and his tips are among the sources I have used to compile this tier list.

I suggest watching the video below as he reviews all chess pieces in the game. The video is dated to mid-February, but it is still relevant as just a limited number of units has been reworked so far.

Win rate statistics at Rook

The Heybox app by xiaoheihe.cn gathers data from the game via a private API. The statistics are not perfect - principally because the info is collected only at the end of the matches - but the data at Rook and above is helpful to have a better idea about the strength and popularity of a hero at high ranks.

The statistics in the table below show the match count and the win rate of each hero at Rook+ from February 25th to March 4th. The heroes are sorted by win rate.

The table is responsive. If you are using a phone, turn it sideways for a full view. Otherwise, zoom in or click the grey area of the table to swipe it.
